Food retailer Asda may expand its in-house design team after a decision to double its number of own-label goods.
Asda plans to produce 2600 own-label products this year, including many new launches and redesigns. “We’re increasing our output, and will need more packaging design,” says a spokesman.
Asda brand general marketing manager Andrew Jeffrey says: “We are significantly ramping-up our rate of product development in every area of the business. We will have some relaunches and a healthy slug of brand new product development.”
Asda is about to appoint a fourth in-house designer. It has an existing roster of “around six” outside consultancies, according to the spokesman.
“Our in-house people could get more work, or we’ll expand the in-house team, or we’ll look further afield,” he says, adding the solution could be all these combined.
