BDG McColl fits Jenners’ ladies

BDG McColl is developing a new ladieswear department for Jenners, Edinburgh’s traditional department store, following its re-design of the men’s designer department last year.

The designs, currently still at concept stage, will be rolled out in March 2001.

The consultancy is creating two new women’s retail sectors on the first floor – Knitwear and Separates and an International Collection.

BDG McColl director Nick Kemp says areas of the Victorian building feature high ceilings and large windows, which the consultancy is developing for the International Collections.

“Jenners is open to contemporary ideas, although the International Collection may feature more classical touches,” he says. “Only the exterior and atrium of Jenners are listed, so we were not restricted in this respect.”

Helen Lawson, project manager at Jenners, says: “In a building over 100 years old, our prime consideration is to strike the [right] balance between tradition and innovation.

“We are aiming to create a stylish look with broad appeal for our knitwear and separates, and the international collection area will have a more exclusive feel, in keeping with the designer ranges on offer,” she adds.
