Malta’s new 18m five-star hotel designed by Dry Butlin Bicknell has been officially opened.

Corinthia San Gorg Hotel sits on a peninsula overlooking St George’s Bay.

A local Maltese architect was responsible for the shell, says DBB project director George Butlin, but the London group was brought in early enough to restructure the public area.

The 250-room hotel includes a restaurant, brasserie, leisure centre and conference facilities. The foyer features helical staircases which descend to the lower ground and terrace level. Marble is used throughout.

DBB won a six-way paid competition after the client, Corinthia Group of Companies, approached more than 30 consultancies.

The group is now pursuing other Maltese projects, including another hotel, Butlin adds.
