IDEO has scooped eight accolades at this year’s Industrial Design Excellence Awards in the US.
The Industrial Designer’s Society of America’s jury judged work submitted by 143 independent design consultancies for the awards, which are sponsored by US commerce magazine Business Week.
IDEO’s California office picked up two Gold Awards for its electric vehicle charging station for electronics company GM Hughes, and an interactive journal for the Center for Design.
Fitch’s Boston office received three prizes, two of them Gold Awards, with its digital equipment for Dove and Baby Dove, and – in the environmental design category – for American loudspeaker company JBL’s on-board trade show.
Competition entries higlighted a significant shift in clients’ design needs, according to Business Week. “Big corporations increasingly want to work with multiservice design firms that can do more for them,” states the magazine.
IDEO has also won three Design Innovation Awards from the Design Zentrum in Essen, Germany. This follows the group’s five design awards at Industrie Forum Design Hannover.
