El Gaucho arrives in London

An Israeli chain of kosher steak houses has opened its first restaurant in the UK. The expansion follows the successful establishment of other European outlets in Russia and the Czech Republic. Additional UK openings are planned.

Using a format designed by an in-house team in Israel, El Gaucho opened its first Israeli site in Tel Aviv in 1978.

The chain now has 17 venues throughout the country, in addition to two in Moscow and one in Prague, which opened at the end of last year.

The north west London venue is located in Golders Green.

The restaurant includes a take-away service in addition to a full restaurant.

Owner of the new London branch, Avi Rosenboam says: “We plan to open four to five restaurants in London over the next five years and will do it step by step. No sites have been found yet for other venues, though we will start looking in six months time.”

El Gaucho’s director of operations outside Israel, Gaby Nachimo, adds: “We are hoping to open a restaurant in New York next year and will be looking at other opportunities, too.”
