Malmaison Hotels has commissioned design and architecture group Jestico & Whiles to develop the interiors of its new Birmingham hotel, and to create a 40-room extension to its existing Edinburgh branch.

The Midlands hotel is situated in a converted post sorting office in the centre of Birmingham. The designs aim to take advantage of the large interior space. Jestico & Whiles is combining rich wood with the light created by high ceilings for the front-of-house area.

“We are updating Malmaison’s signature of modern, contemporary hotel design to reflect our age,” says designer Sniez Torbarina. “Tactile materials will feature heavily in the entrance hall area to complement the deep coloured flooring.”

Malmaison is enlarging the bar and brasserie in its Edinburgh hotel, and the designs will be in line with the existing low key ambience.

Spot lighting will create focus points and complement the dark timber panelling. Jestico & Whiles is also extending the hotel entrance area: an enlarged foyer will lead customers through to the reception area, with pendant lighting acting as a visual guide.
