Interiors deserve a better deal from the Royal College of Art

Yet again, architecture – a profession with credible representation and influence – has, it appears, influenced the decision-makers at the world’s best design college, the Royal College of Art (DW 22 February). It is not, then, surprising that the industry (it can’t be described as a profession) with no credible representation, and little influence – commercial interior design – may be sidetracked.

Despite the UK’s international reputation among design buyers as a major catalyst for commercial success, the interior design sector has no public voice and even less influence. It is my opinion that the challenge should be taken up by the likes of ‘the eminent alumni of the RCA postgraduate course for architecture and interior design’ to give the interior design industry the credibility it richly deserves.
