Moggridge to lead interaction design forum

Ideo co-founder Bill Moggridge is to head a forum on interaction design in products and services, as part of a series of multidisciplinary discussions about design and innovation.

The Innovation Forum aims to bring together key figures from a range of disciplines to discuss how effectively, or how poorly, they are collaborating on innovation across various industries. Event panels will gather people from design, business, academia, content production and technology, says the founder of technology research consultancy Spy, Nico Macdonald, who is organising the events.

In June, Moggridge will draw on his experience at Ideo to discuss how interaction is successfully developed for products and services. A forum in April will look at the state of broadcast news and the design and use of aggregated content.

The Innovation Forum kicked off last month with a discussion about on-line newspapers. Speakers included Khoi Vinh, design director at NYTimes.com, and Paul Adams, user-experience consultant at Flow Interactive. According to Macdonald, it highlighted the tensions between on-line business model requirements – such as log-ins, click-throughs and advertisements – and what is typically considered good design.
