Brand new pad for helicopters

The International Helicopter Museum in Weston-super-Mare has appointed architect Foster & Partners for the development of new premises on a greenfield site prior to making a bid for Lottery funds.

The museum, the only one of its kind in the UK, has run out of room in which to store its collection of 70 aircraft, many of which are rare.

Development director Ian Harper says the museum will not start to select interior or graphic designers until the result of an application for funds from the Heritage Lottery Fund is known.

That is likely to mean next year at the earliest. “We don’t yet know what the building will cost or even look like,” says Harper.
