Design group Redhouse Lane has come up with a solution to the problem of staff slaving all night to meet deadlines.

The group has started running official nightshifts to make the most of equipment. ‘It means that designers are not required to work 18-hour days, which could have an effect on their creativity,’ says a Redhouse Lane spokesman.

If designers elsewhere start demanding similar treatment the results could be severe. It is only by working junior staff to the point of exhaustion that many consultancies keep them from applying for new jobs.
