Anyone interested in what will be the new black next year should attend the annual Promostyl trends lecture, covering summer 1998. The lecture, taking place on 15 January, will be presented in two parts – the first focusing on the influences and socio-cultural trends which have inspired Promostyl for summer 1998, the second part presenting the colours and fabrics for the season, combined with key shapes and prints for menswear, womenswear and childrens markets.

The Chartered Society of Designers’ Uncut series continues, this time with Siobhan Keaney in the line of fire and Liz Farrelly asking the questions. Keaney set up as an independent graphic designer in 1985 and regularly exhibits and lectures on her work. Lecture starts at 7pm on 16 January.

Alternatively, the next Sign Design Society meeting is also taking place on the 16 January at 6.30pm. Eoin Billings of Nicholas Grimshaw and Partners discusses Profile One – a signage, information and orientation system for the German manufacturer Mabeg. The system was designed by Mabeg and Nicholas Grimshaw and Partners.

If you want to know what makes Tomato tick, you should book now for An Evening with Tomato, the first in the new series of British Design and Art Direction’s President’s Lectures. The group promises “a cross between a live gig and theatre”, incorporating martial arts, comedy and philosophy. 7.15pm, 29 January.
