Lighting fans should make a note of an opening on 16 January at the Cable Street Gallery, where Tom Kirk and Andrew Grant have created Trans-Forms, an installation of contemporary lighting. Until 2 February.

Lightshow ’97, one of the biggest lighting events in the UK, takes place from 26 to 29 January. Many companies exhibiting will be launching new ranges.

Concord Sylvania is holding an International Design Award. Entrants must produce ideas for a fixture using the Hi-Spot ES50 mains voltage mini halogen lamp. The design should be suitable for small batch production and technical lighting requirements should be taken into account.
