Symbian flies with Imagination

Symbian, the software-licensing consortium formed by Psion, Nokia, Ericsson, Motorola and Matsushita, unveiled its first exhibition stand last week, designed by Imagination.

Imagination was appointed to create the first Symbian brand experience site for the CeBIT technology show, following its ongoing work with consortium member Ericsson. Two Ericsson stands at the show were also designed by the consultancy.

Further exhibitions will form the basis of Symbian’s European branding activity this year, while budgets are discussed for future marketing offensives, says a Symbian Europe spokeswoman. She adds that the Symbian marque will now be promoted over system names such as EPOC to avoid confusion. The EPOC identity was created by Therefore.

As its revenue stream is based upon licenses granted for products not yet on sale, Symbian has relied upon support from its owners for its brand activity to date.
