Viatel extends Euro network

American telecommunications group Viatel has extended its pan-European network with the $125m (£79m) acquisition of AT&T’s UK subsidiary AT&T Communications (UK) Ltd.

The takeover will see Viatel’s corporate identity, created by Virginia consultancy KT Marketing in 1998, being rolled out across AT&T’s UK network. “Viatel’s existing corporate design will be applied across the entire new infrastructure,” says a spokesman for the US group.

“It is critical to link both companies’ brand equities,” he adds.
