French group picked for Expo ’98 flagship

French consultancy Rozon SARL has been appointed to design the flagship exhibition for Expo’98 in Portugal. The Utopian Pavilion will house a nautical multimedia show.

Rozon was shortlisted against Imagination and Spanish group Ovídeo Bassat Sport & Ass, which handled the opening show for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Ten international groups were initially considered.

The multimedia show will feature the Expo’s theme, The Oceans: a Heritage for the Future, complete with marine myths and legends.

With a crowd capacity of between 10 000 and 17 000, the pavilion will be the country’s biggest covered stadium.

The stadium is designed by Skidmore Owings & Merryl with local architect Regino Cruz. The multimedia show will run for the four months of the exposition, starting in May 1998.
