New taxi runs down Fairway

London Taxis International launches a new cab today, with input from Kenneth Grange at Pentagram, Gordon Sked, Rover’s ex-head of styling and Geoff Matthews Design managing director Geoff Matthews.

The TX1 replaces the Fairway model. It is intended to improve comfort for the driver and passenger, and to conform to new accessibility and vehicle regulations. ‘The design had to be soft and friendly and have a sense of humour… and not lose the icon value [of the existing model],’ says LTI project director Jevon Thorpe. The cab will hit the streets on 20 October.
