Precedent has created a new website for Essex County Council, www.essexcc.gov.uk, as the council moves to make its services more accessible to the public.

Precedent, which worked on the organisation’s brand positioning two years ago, was appointed in February after an unpaid creative and credentials pitch.

The group was briefed to create a more ‘user-focused’ and ‘accessible’ website, says Essex County Council project sponsor Mary Rowlatt.

It has introduced a ‘simple channel structure’ to the home page, which ‘reflects the issues that matter most to users,’ says Precedent technical business director Mark Sherwin.

‘Before, people had to drill down five or six pages to get to what they wanted to know.

‘We wanted them to [access this information] within a single click,’ he adds.

According to Sherwin, the website has a ‘strong grid and sense of colour, so people know where they are and where they need to go immediately’.
