Getting the finances right is always a good place to start

I read with interest your feature on start-ups (On Your Marks, DW 26 August). As an accountant with clients in the design industry, I concur with the advice that the finance team should be in place as soon as possible.

A good financial director can consider finance both at the strategic level (planning ahead, increasing shareholder value and identifying business goals) and at the operational level (ensuring the provision of management information, introducing project management systems and monitoring cash flow).
