University arts complex for Bath

The University of Bath has revealed plans to open a new interdisciplinary arts complex which will replace its existing facilities and result in significant expansion.

Though the university’s press office was unable to confirm the procedure that will be adopted for the appointment of any design consultancies, it did confirm that a competitive tender will be held for an architect.

Five architects will be shortlisted and asked to produce initial concept sketches and attend an interview. Each of those shortlisted will receive an honorarium of £5000, with one winner selected to take the project forward to the next stage. Funding is currently being sought to take the project through to completion.

‘The university aspires to developing a building of the highest architectural quality, and also to achieving the highest standards of sustainability in this and all its new construction projects,’ says a spokeswoman.
