Olympic design hopefuls face fitness tests
Designers will be required to undergo fitness and sporting tests to qualify for London 2012 Olympic tenders, Design Week can reveal.
The Federation of Olympic Organisational Logisticians says it wants consultancies tendering to nominate one member of staff to go through a similar pre-qualification process to that of athletes in the British Olympic team.
This could see designers required to run 100m in under 11 seconds, throw a javelin further than 70m, or defeat Locog chairman Lord Coe in a bout of Greco-Roman wrestling.
A spokesman for FOOL tells Design Week, ‘We want designers to get a real understanding of what the Olympics means for those taking part.’
He adds, ‘This won’t be an easy qualification, and we will be asking them to jump through hoops. In some cases literally.’
I’m open to tenders then. I’m a long-distance runner and a fast one at that. Form an orderly line please.
