The revival of traditions across print, type, branding and graphics will be the subject of a two-day event at the St Bride Library, London EC4 next week.

The event will feature a series of talks, workshops and exhibitions examining the reinterpretation and reintroduction of traditional methods such as quilling or the recasting of old types through new technologies.

Among the speakers will be Kath Turnbull and Julia Woollams from London consultancy Johnson Banks, who will dicuss brands of ‘pensionable age’ the consultancy has reworked, including Save the Children and the British Film Institute.

Book designer David Pearson will discuss the push from publishers for increasingly clever ways to republish backlist titles and redefine their brand identity, while Brazilian typographer and Tupigrafia editor Claudio Rocha will introduce experimental letterpress workshop Oficina Tipografica São Paulo.

Graphic designer and Dorling Kindersley art director Martin Wilson will exhibit work reappropriating from photographic works capturing words and letters from urban typography, such as road signs, number plates and billboards.

Revival takes place on 23-24 April at St Bride Library, London EC4.

It’s a shame that there isn’t a way for those of us on the other side of the pond to view this. Perhaps in the future such events will be broadcast over the net for other to see. I would be willing to pay a fee to see this event.
As a quiller for 49 years, I am alwasy on the lookout for new information about quilling.
