Malcolm Garrett and Jane Plüer work on photography book

Applied Information Group creative director Malcolm Garrett and Pentagram associate partner Jane Plüer have collaborated on the design of a book about the work of music photographer Peter Anderson.

Here and There, Here and Now features portraits of Madonna, Iggy Pop, Run DMC, Stone Roses, Joe Strummer, Lou Reed and Marvin Gaye, among others.

The book is the most recent output of a three-decade-long working relationship between Garrett and Anderson, which began when Garrett used the photographer’s images for the cover of the Simple Minds 1981 single Sweat in Bullet.

Plüer became involved after Anderson, a friend, approached her to work on the layout. ‘I’m a bit anal about grids and so I became the grid specialist on the book,’ she says.

The book will be published in two parts by APT Gallery in Deptford, London SE8. The first will be released tonight, timed to coincide with the launch of APT Gallery’s retrospective of Anderson’s work.

‘We started work on the book late so we are releasing this 32-page teaser book before the main, heavy-duty volume comes out,’ says Plüer.

The exhibition Here and There, Here and Now, runs at the APT Gallery until 2 May.
