Spanish group Cases & Associates leads Independent redesign

The Independent newspaper has been redesigned in a project led by Barcelona-based consultancy Cases & Associates.

The redesign features a slightly tweaked eagle logo and a new front-page design. The straplines ‘free from party-political ties’ and ‘free from proprietorial influence’ have been introduced.

A new Viewspaper section has been launched, which The Independent says is a ‘daily magazine supplement’ that features opinion, commentary and a daily essay, as well as regulars such as arts reviews and TV listings.

The headline fonts are Sun, in the main section, and Farnham and Clan, in the Viewspaper section. The Viewspaper also features letterpress-style folio headings.

The Independent and The Independent on Sunday were bought by Russian businessman Alexander Lebedev, who also owns the London Evening Standard, last month.
