Woods Bagot works on Eccleston Square Hotel interiors

Woods Bagot is taking the lead in designing the interior of London’s Eccleston Square Hotel, which will open in June and be based around a ‘boutique’ image.

Woods Bagot’s Rob Steul will be heading up the consultancy’s hotel design team, which will carry out both architectural and interior work for the building’s owner, Eccleston Square Hotel Holdings.

The architecture and design company was approached directly with the request that it carry out both architectural and interior design in keeping with hotel director Olivia Byrne’s vision of the finished product.

Byrne says, ‘We had visited hotels around the world and had thought, “What’s wrong with these hotels?” So we carried on the process from there, thinking about the detailing right down to the plugs.’

Rooms are designed with luxury in mind, offering hi-tech gadgets as well as aiming to make the visitor’s experience as relaxing as possible. Handmade Hästens beds worth £12 000 feature in every room, and the bed linen is high-quality Egyptian cotton from Rivolta Carmignani.

All rooms contain 3D LED TVs with HD movie and 3D channels, 3D Blu Ray DVD players with 3D glasses, and finger-tip control panels which control many of the room’s functions, from the lighting and curtains to wake-up and bedtime settings.

An iPad2 will also feature in every room, with Hästens-made adjustable massage beds complete with massage programmes that synchronize with the Hästens Mind Spa TV.

Bathrooms feature ‘smart glass’ walls that turn opaque at the touch of a button, as well as a TV incorporated into a heated, steam-proof mirror. The wet rooms also feature rainfall showers, high-pressure massage heads and aromatherapy products from L’Occitane.

Steul says, ‘This project draws on Woods Bagot’s extensive experience and knowledge of hotel design. The new hotel will offer clientele the best in comfort, contemporary design and in-room technology.’
