New York Festivals trophies are inspired by the city skyline
Sagmeister & Walsh has designed new trophies for the New York Festivals awards, taking inspiration from the city’s buildings.
The new trophies come in a range of sizes, colours and designs, depending on the prize awarded. They are cast in aluminium and stand 20-35cm high.
Sagmeister & Walsh’s Jessica Walsh, who was art director and designer on the project, says, ‘Over time as people collect their trophies they will create an abstract version of a New York City skyline.’

Walsh says the new trophies are ‘inspired by Art Deco architecture, but contemporary in nature’.
A small projector is placed in the bottom of each trophy, so that when the winner lifts it up, their name will be revealed in LEDs.
Stefan Sagmeister, creative director on the project, says, ‘We created a trophy that we would love to receive ourselves. Something that feels good when you lift it up, something that looks good as a grouping when you earn a few of them and something that displays the winners’ names in a new and innovative way – we’ve always hated the little glue-on metal name prints..
The new awards will be given out at the New York Festivals gala night on 1 May.
