Plan-B Studio creates Ramseur record label designs
Plan-B Studio has created a new identity and website for US record label Ramseur, using a letterpress-style logo and a website that features a chronological timeline of the label.
Plan-B creative director Steve Price was appointed to work on the project in 2012, and the original commission to design a website developed into an identity project.
Ramseur Records was founded by Dolphus Ramseur and is based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Price says he communicated with the client using Skype and submitted ideas to Ramseur using blank 7” record sleeves.
The Ramseur identity uses a Letterpress-style stamp made by sliding two Rs together. Price says, ‘I wanted to use a particular style that I felt suited their indie, rock and folk music.’
The identity comes in three modes – dirty, clean and cleaner – which can be used depending on which musical audience the label is talking to.
The website is based on a ‘chronological biography’ of Dolphus Ramseur and the label, says Price. Timelines are designed to look like tracks on a recording desk and pull data from the label’s artist websites and social media feeds.
Price describes it as, ‘A self-generating, automatically fed, content-managed website designed with influence from the Rockabilly era of music posters and typography’.
Nice Marque…. but why does the ‘clean’ version have a ‘dirty’ filled in logotype and vice versa?!
