Alvar Aalto seminar kicks off

The fifth Alvar Aalto design seminar opens today in Jväskylä, Finland, with a host of design luminaries, including Hella Jongerius, as key speakers.

Organised by the Alvar Aalto Academy in conjunction with the Alvar Aalto Museum, this year’s event will be based on the concept ‘It’s a beautiful day’.

The seminar aims to bring together a host of design professionals and corporate leaders to discuss ways in which innovation, design and technology can solve world problems, based on this theme.

Speakers at the event will also include designers Adriaan Beukers, Louise Campbell, Dai Fujiwara, Miguel Fluxa and Ronan Bouroullec.

A complementary exhibition – Made in Finland – will feature the work of designers including Mikko Paakkanen, Syrup Helsinki and Nathalie Lahdenmäki.

The show has been curated and designed by seminar chair and interior architect Ilkka Suppanen.

The exhibition takes place at the Museum of Central Finland, also in Jväskylä. See www.alvaraalto.fi/designseminar/2007.
