Design roster call from 2012

The organisers of the London 2012 Olympics are ramping up their design capabilities with a hunt for a panel of design and creative services consultancies.

The Olympic Delivery Authority and the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games have jointly asked for tenders to form a panel of suppliers specialising in a range of marketing, design and communications services.

Under the design and creative services category, the bodies are looking for consultancies that can produce outdoor media, such as hoardings around the construction sites for the London 2012 venues, as well as corporate literature including annual reports, and design strategy including brand implementation.

Additionally, design and creative groups will be appointed to create technical leaflets and exhibition materials such as pop-up displays and exhibition stands. The panel will work in a similar way to a roster, and both Locog and the ODA would work with the appropriate group as and when necessary.

According to a spokesman for Locog, ‘Between the Locog and the ODA, we produce various brochures, publications and leaflets on a fairly regular basis, and obviously, as we approach 2012, this will more than likely increase. We are looking at announcing successful applications early next year and as this is a joint tendering process, the panel will be made up from representatives from both sides.’

The contracts will run until 2012, subject to annual review, with provision to run beyond this if required. The deadline for applications is 27 August, at etenders.london2012.com.

In the past month, the ODA has chosen a design team for the Lea Valley Velopark. The winning team to create the stage for the 6000-seat velodrome, which will host the indoor cycling events and provide facilities for road cycling, BMX and mountain biking, includes Hopkins Architects, Expedition Engineering, BDSP and Grant Associates.

The ODA is also appointing a multi-disciplinary team to design the Handball Arena that can apply a ‘range of expertise to the design of the venue’.
