Furniture to get guild mark

The prestigious Furniture Makers Company has introduced the Design Guild Mark as a stamp of excellence in the design of furniture pieces in volume production.

Recognising the work of some of this country’s top designers, the Design Guild Mark will be awarded according to quality of design, materials, manufacture and function.

Design Guild Mark chairman Jonathan Hindle says, ‘It will mark the work of the finest designers working in Britain and the best of British designers working abroad.’

Among the high-profile panel of judges are Sebastian Conran of Conran Design, Design Museum director Deyan Sudjic and fashion designer Margaret Howell. The deadline for applications is 30 November.
