South design show takes shape in SA

South African design exhibition South has disclosed its format for this year and announced that the application process will start on 13 November, with the winners announced in 2009.

The exhibition is open to designers over the age of 21 and celebrates South African design. It will travel globally in an attempt to raise the profile of design from the country.

Design conference and exhibition hosts Design Indaba has constructed the Creative Alliance, an initiative forged to promote South African Culture internationally.

Caryn Vanrooyen, production assistant from Interactive Africa, one of the bodies involved in promoting the project, says, ‘We’re hoping for new things to be on show for the first time, but we wouldn’t expect whole new lines as this is the first exhibition.’

The judging panel and curators are yet to be decided, but judging will take place at four locations in South Africa in February 2009.
