Art school head moves on

Gray’s School of Art’s search for a new head to replace Professor Stuart MacDonald is underway.

MacDonald is leaving his post at the art school, part of Robert Gordon University, at the end of August after three years at the helm. He claims to be ‘retiring from academia’ in favour of working on design projects.

‘I could have gone on for longer but I want to do more consultancy work and work on design projects that interest me,’ he says.

A spokesman for the university reveals that the recruitment process is ‘underway’ to find a new head, with the post due to be advertised ‘in the coming weeks’.

MacDonald explains that there will be a gap between his departure and the appointment of his replacement.

The university credits MacDonald with raising the profile of design at the art school, partly through his support of the Centre for Design and Innovation.

After his departure MacDonald intends to maintain links with the art school through the Centre for Design and Innovation.
