British Institute of Interior Design looks to raise profile
The British Institute of Interior Design is aiming to forge links with design associations to raise the profile of interior designers.
‘We must raise the bar so that clients see us as professionals who work on the building team, not as carpet selectors,’ says BIID president and Interior Design School director Iris Dunbar.
The BIID says it is in talks with the Chartered Society of Designers to allow its members to participate in CSD’s professional development courses. Dunbar also plans to approach the Design Council and the Design Business Association in an effort to promote interior design.
Dunbar is applying to sit on the board of the International Federation of Interior Designers/Architects. BIID achieved institute status in June.

In Italy the interior designer is often also product designer, brand/ graphics creator as well as architect. With interiors being a final year specialisation option for architects at university.
