Designers wanted for Tube textiles competition

Transport for London is running an open design competition to find a new pattern for its moquette Tube seating.

Open to professional and non-professional designers alike, the competition winner will receive £5000 for their work.

The prescribed Pantone colours for the design include TfL’s corporate colours 072 Blue, Safety Blue and 032 Red.

Applicants should ‘take into consideration certain utilitarian elements, such as being commercially viable, having a repeat pattern and not being too small to cause “dazzle” or “strobe”,’ says TfL in a statement. Secondary colours include a range of blues, greys and greens.

The winning design will launch on the Piccadilly Line by 2012 before being rolled out across the Tube system.

Entrants are allowed to submit up to two patterns to the competition by the deadline of 14 September.
