Event works on Giant’s Causeway visitor centre

London- and Dublin-based exhibition design consultancy Event Communications is working on the interiors of the visitor centre for the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland, as well as interpretive design for the entire site.

The consultancy was appointed by the National Trust following a tender process that was advertised in April.

It will now work on interiors at the visitor centre, which is being designed by architect Heneghan Peng, as well as interpretive design, including wayfinding, across the Giant’s Causeway and the Causeway Coast World Heritage Site.

Steve Simons, executive creative director for Event, says the consultancy’s work will aim to ‘break down barriers’ between visitors and staff, and will be focused around three key themes: ‘geology, ecology, and myth and man’.

He adds, ‘[The work will] encourage appreciation, enable understanding and contribute to the vital protection of Northern Ireland’s only World Heritage Site.’

The work is due to complete in 2012. The new facilities will cost £18.5m to deliver and work is due to start on site in 2010.

Fingers crossed work begins as promised! Antrim is a beautiful part of Northern Ireland, but as I understand it there’s still a lot of fund-raising left to do before they have enough money to complete.

Still, looking forward to seeing a spruced up Giant’s Causeway!
