Konstantin Grcic works on Serpentine exhibition

German product designer Konstantin Grcic is curating the Serpentine Gallery’s first-ever exhibition devoted to contemporary design.

Grcic is putting together the Design Real exhibition, which will run at the west London gallery from 26 November to 7 February 2010.

The show will focus on what the organisers term ‘real’ objects – products that are currently in production, have a practical function in real life and are available to buy.

It will also feature a ‘research space’ designed by Grcic, where visitors will be able to investigate the origins and applications of the products on view.

Design Real is curated by Grcic in association with the gallery’s director Julia Peyton-Jones, co-director Hans Ulrich Obrist and curator Kathryn Rattee.

The 2009 Serpentine Gallery Pavilion, designed by Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa of Japanese architect Sanaa, will be in place near the gallery until 18 October.
