Decked

With a far-from-auspicious skateboarding career that involved no small amount of scraped knees and embarrassing misuses of the word ‘gnarly’ I find myself both intrigued and slightly intimidated by the Decked exhibition, showing at London’s Conigsby Gallery from 16-28 August.

The show is now in its second year, and will see a collection of designers, illustrators, photographers, graffiti artists and tattoo artists create bespoke designs on individual skateboards.

Dave Bain has created the ‘pinball head’ design, described as ‘a compendium of typography and imagery’, while Camellie, who designed the flyer for the event, also contributes a painted deck.

Seb Burnett’s deck features a rather concerned-looking iteration of his Harold T Littlecock character.

Meanwhile Jake Blanchard and Tom Forsyth have teamed up to create a hand-carved board which boasts a carved crest with the creators’ initials on it.

Sponsor Vans has provided 16 pairs of its Chukka boots for the artists to work on, which will be hung by their laces throughout the show. Sarah King has hand-painted a sea-themed pair, and Docvek has painted a pair based on the theme of Adam and Eve.

Gnarly (ahem).
