London in a new light

Wanting to learn how to work with a digital camera after a career in 35mm and medium-format film, photographer Sandra Lousada decided to embark on a postgraduate course at Central St Martins College of Art and Design.

On experimenting with digital, Lousada found that the new medium allowed her to capture light, colour and movement in a new way and so she set about photographing the vibrant bustle of her home city, London.

Lousada’s new book London Light shows the city lit up by both electricity and the sun’s rays. From office blocks to cyclists on the Southbank, each photograph presents a different side of London, united by the interesting patterns and moods created by light.
