Tom Dixon to launch his first shop

Tom Dixon will launch his first shop at London’s Portobello Dock during the London Design Festival.

The shop, set to open on 20 September, will be located inside a converted wharf building at Ladbroke Grove and will showcase the full Tom Dixon range of lighting and furniture, as well as work from other international designers.

The shop’s interiors have been created by Design Research Studio, the interior design company led by Dixon. The Dock Kitchen, which was initially launched as a temporary space in September 2009, will relaunch as a permanent 80-cover restaurant, deli and take-away coffee bar, also designed by Design Research Studio.

The LDF will also see Dixon launch his Etch collection, which includes a digitally manufactured brass pendant light (pictured) and candle-holder. The collection will be made and sold as part of a live assembly line inside the shop during the festival.

Other new products that will launch at the shop will include the Scoop chair, which has been created by applying upholstery to an injection-moulded shell, and the Peg coat-stand, a flat-pack structure that allows the user to assemble it in a number of configurations.

Other designers exhibiting at the shop include Dutch designer Plet Hein Eek, Caribbean initiative New Caribbean Design, young designer project Areaware, Fine Cell Work and Made A Mano.
