Applied Information Group reforms as Applied after administration

Applied Information Group has changed its trading name to Applied, after going into administration, and joined European group Edenspiekerman Alliance.

Applied creative director Tim Fendley says the name change took place in July, when the consultancy also joined the Edenspiekermann Alliance. Applied is linked to new limited company AIG Edenspiekerman Limited which was registered on 16 July 2011.

Companies House says Applied Information Group Limited went into administration on 14 July.

Fendley and Edenspiekermann founder Erik Spiekermann had previously worked together at Meta Design. The pair are also co-directing typography and graphic design conference Typo London.

Fendley says the change itself has not led to redundancies, rather that there has been ‘natural change over the last two years’ as the result of a reduction in public-sector work.

AIG managing director Kasper de Graaf and creative director Malcolm Garrett left the group to found new consultancy 53K at the start of the year.

Fendley says the new consultancy will work across ‘design, places and technology’ and have an international focus and more private-sector clients. He says it will continue to focus on wayfinding information design projects, including city mapping and transport information solutions.

Fendley says Applied which already has four studios – including offices in Canada and South Korea – also hopes to open another office.
