Glory Glory – typographic football chants
A huge squad of designers is being assembled for Glory Glory, a typographic project on football chants.
Large-format posters are being created for an upcoming exhibition and book curated by ex-Music designer Craig Oldham, Made Thought designer Nick Blakeman, and Sea Design designer Alex Brown.
The trio has already signed up 32 high-profile players including Bibliothèque, Hat-Trick Design, Margaret Calvert, Music, The Chase, and Build.
Typically football chants are songs of high praise or targeted couplets of abuse and for the exhibition the whole gamut of song has been captured.
Oldham, who is a Barnsley fan, says that bringing graphic design and football together in this way is ‘uncharted territory’ but he adds, ‘It makes sense as there’s such a rich DIY heritage in fanzines, programmes and so on.’
Glory Glory is in aid of British Blind Sport and takes place on 13 August at Hoxton Arches, 37 Cremer Street E2
