Oyster card holders by Noma Bar, Kate Moross and others
Some of the biggest names in graphics have designed a new set of Oyster card holders for Transport for London and produced this stunning work.
Outline Editions selected and commissioned Noma Bar, Kate Moross, Kristjana S Williams, James Joyce, Andrew Rae and Andreas Neophytou.
Outlne Editions says it was looking for people to respond to the challenge with ‘wit and elegance’ and also asked for designs from Design Junction, Mina Lima, BCMH, Studio Small and Pearson Lloyd.
Andrew Rae has been drawn to the idea that everyone – man and beast it seems – uses the Underground.
He says, ‘The Underground is part of the fabric of London, reflecting and serving the incredible diversity of people who live, work and play in the city.’
Bar has been inspired by the little Underground mice seen scampering about on the tracks.
He says, ‘I wanted to create a design with a narrative that would celebrate the forgotten areas of the underground, for the audience to look at the iconic logo in a different light and discover a new story within it.’
The card-holders will be on sale at design show Design Junction and clipppings.com and from the TfL online shop www.tfl.gov.uk/shop and London Transport Museum shop (available now for pre-orders). Single holders cost £6.99 and a set of ten costs £55.
Noma Bar always surprise me with an original point of view.
