CAA director quits after split with the board

Contemporary Applied Arts director Tass Mavrogordato has resigned from the organisation, it has emerged this week. It is understood that her departure followed a difference of opinion with members of the CAA board over the ongoing viability of its London shop.

The store was scheduled to close at the end of December, due to a lack of financial resources, but it is thought that Mavrogordato wanted it to continue trading until March.

However, the shop has subsequently been given a stay of execution, following an anonymous £50 000 donation. The CAA hopes it will ‘continue trading indefinitely’, but Mavrogordato has decided to leave anyway, says CAA trustee Natasha Kerr. The organisation will recruit for a replacement, adds Kerr.

Mavrogordato was not available for comment as Design Week went to press.
