Revamp for Jewish Chronicle

The Jewish Chronicle is to undergo a redesign under John Belknap, the newspaper’s newly appointed creative director.

Belknap took up his position at the newspaper this week and is tasked with redesigning the newspaper and its on-line domain, www.thejc.com. The intention of the redesign is to give it a ‘stronger sense of authority’, says Belknap. The project is still in its infancy and a relaunch date has not yet been confirmed.

The Jewish Chronicle claims to be the world’s oldest and most influential Jewish newspaper. It was established 164 years ago.

Previously Belknap ran an editorial design consultancy, Belknap & Co, which Belknap says will continue to exist. He has redesigned many of the UK’s leading publications, such as The Independent on Sunday, Loot, The Herald magazine and the Belfast Telegraph. He has also been art director at Blueprint magazine, The Sunday Telegraph magazine and the Daily Express. He co-founded industry body Magazine Art Directors and is on the committee of the Typographic Circle.
