Liu sails into Fjord London post

Digital and design consultancy Fjord has appointed Chris Liu, former head of Sony’s human interface design team, as managing director of its London office.

He replaces Mike Beeston, one of the founders, who will sit on the board of directors and take a more strategic role.

As part of his new position, Liu will be responsible for overseeing finances, human resources, market positioning, delivering client projects and business development.

Prior to joining Fjord, Liu was based at Sony’s European design centre in London, where he spent five years developing the user interfaces for a host of prominent Sony products. His work there included the on-screen user interfaces for Sony’s range of Bravia TVs.

Liu began his career with Sony Mobile in 1997, after graduating from the University of California, San Diego with a degree in cognitive science.

After two years heading Sony Mobile’s Interface team in the US, he was offered a position by Sony Mobile in Europe, heading its user interface design team in Munich.

Liu then spent two years with the e-consultancy Sapient Corporation to help set up its office in Europe.
