Smale wins Skoda writer award

Car manufacturer Skoda’s Design Writer of the Year award has been handed to writer and journalist Glen Smale.

Smale won the Laurin and Klement prize for his book Jaguar E-type: Portrait of a Design Legend. He was awarded the L&K trophy at the Guild of Motoring Writers’ annual dinner at London’s RAC Club.

A Skoka UK spokeswoman says, ‘Glen’s book paid serious attention to all aspects of the car’s design.’

The Laurin and Klement prize trophy itself was designed by Jukka Rautiainen, a student at the Royal College of Art. Called Speeding to the Future, the one-off piece was made from aluminium and engraved by hand.
