Design consultancies share Liverpool Bug World brief

Met Studio, All of Us and Cubit 3D are creating an insectarium visitor attraction at Liverpool’s Albert Docks.

The Bug World Experience, due to open in June next year, will feature live insect specimens, digital interactive exhibits by All of Us and retail design by Edinburgh-based consultancy Cubit 3D.

Exhibition and interior design group Met Studio appointed All of Us and Cubit 3D about a month ago to work on the visitor attraction, which is owned by Irish investment company Rogers Group Investments.

Met Studio is designing the exhibition and interiors with its regular collaborator, US consultancy Academy Studios. The groups operate together under the joint name MASi.

All of Us scooped the contract following an unpaid creative five-way pitch. The digital group is creating a suite of interactives for the six Bug World zones, including ‘find out more’ terminals, games and information points.

‘We are building an artificial intelligence engine that will allow us to create virtual bugs that visitors can interact with and “handle”, to complement the live specimens and their human handlers,’ says All of Us design director Mickey Stretton.

The visitor centre will be arranged over two floors and be able to accommodate up to 500 visitors.

RGI declined to comment on the appointments.
