Harriman Steel creates Nike campaign

Harriman Steel has designed a campaign for Nike’s Court Force women’s shoe range.

The consultancy has developed print and digital ads and a retail campaign for shoe retailer Office, featuring chrome basketballs for the shoe range, which is an original basketball 1987 classic, redesigned for 2009.

The consultancy was appointed to the project in September, having worked for Nike for about six years on projects including Nike Blazer and Nike Metro.

Matt Blease, designer at Harriman Steel, says of the Court Force campaign, ‘Nike is a sportswear brand, so we wanted to make sure the core message of the sport was there. We also wanted it to look sleek, sexy and not too masculine.’

Blease adds that the consultancy was influenced by the original 1980s Court Force logo, which features a basketball, as well as Tom Dixon’s copper lampshades.

The campaign launches today.

I think the overall vibe of the campaign is very fitting with what Nike tend to go for – and they’ve succeeded in communicating the sports-side of the brand. However, I feel that it may be slightly too masculine in a sense, or more uni-sex than specifically aimed at a female market.
