Seymour Roworth-Stokes to chair Design Research Society

The Design Research Society has appointed Dr Seymour Roworth-Stokes as its chairman, replacing Professor Chris Rust. Roworth-Stokes is pro-vice chancellor for research and development at the University for the Creative Arts.

The new chairman says he hopes to raise the Design Research Society’s profile, level of influence and contribution ‘to society and the global economy’.

‘I also hope to enhance opportunities for design researchers to engage with the wider research community internationally,’ says Roworth-Stokes.

An industrial design graduate, Roworth-Stokes formed the Surrey Institute of Art and Design’s department of research and development in 2001. Prior to his move into academia in 1991, he worked on design projects for clients including BT and BAA.

The Design Research Society aims to increase co-operation between design professionals and academics. The society has about 500 members internationally.
