Google’s ‘Brighton beach-themed’ office set to complete

Architect Scott Brownrigg is working on the new Google offices in London’s Victoria, which are being fitted out with a ‘Brighton beach’ theme.

The practice was appointed in June or July of this year following a four-way credentials pitch. It is working with Cameron Black on the fit-out.

The new offices feature ‘typical British washed-out’ beach huts, dodgem cars, digital wall art and dice-shaped video conferencing pods in the ‘Google colours’.

Senior interior designer at Scott Brownrigg, Rosemary Davies, says, ‘Google chose Brighton [as a theme], but said it wanted to be a bit more “grown up”.’

The practice installed huge ‘Google’ letters in the reception area, and also designed the building’s restaurant interiors and most of the signage.

Davies says that the project’s main challenge was creating ‘sophisticated but quirky’ interiors on budget, as Google estimates it will only use the offices for the next three to five years.

She adds, ‘We spent a lot on furniture as that can go with them – we had to use clever design to get a solution’

The first 2787m2 of the project has been completed, and the second phase, the next 929m2, will be complete by the end of March.
