Cogapp designs new Dorling Kindersley apps

Cogapp has designed a flurry of apps for Dorling Kindersley in time for Christmas.

An updated Eyewitness London and new Eyewitness Venice guide launch next week, following a Tom Ang Photography app which launched yesterday and Kids’ Craft which launched last week.

The consultancy has been working with Dorling Kindersley on 13 apps delivered in as many months. The Venice guide completes a set of nine DK Eyewitness travel apps.

Tom Ang Photography launches on the iPhone, designed as a ‘field guide’ according to Cogapp technical director Ben Rubinstein who says 85 guides are contained, plus an indexing search feature, a settings tab and a spinner ‘which faintly nods to a camera dial.’ Light, setting, angle, patterns and texture can all be explored.

Kids’ Craft has launched on the iPad based on books authored by Jane Bull. ‘We were torn between making something which would encourage kids to put the book down and go and make, or follow something craft-based on-screen – so we did both,’ says Rubinstein.

Games include drawing and sewing – ‘cross stitch with your finger’ and the app features Ted, ‘a woolen creature which you can make’.

Three interactive and three off-screen activities have been designed and the functionality included for children to take photographs of their creations and share them with friends.
